Pun intended, 😉. This release is chock-full of new functionality focused on standards, making it easier to simultaneously report your organization's impact while satisfying the needs and requirements of your donors and regulatory authorities. As we add new functionality for impact measurement and refine existing for impact reporting, it’s also true that we pride ourselves on the user experience we create, setting a high standard for everything we craft. We aim to continue building functionality that makes it easier for you to continuously work on impact reporting while saving you time so you can focus on mission-centered work.
Below is a list of all the changes you will notice the next time you log in to b.world, including some new AI functionality that we are stoked about. 😎
1) IRIS+ Alignment for impact measurement
Users can now align their projects and indicators with IRIS+, the standard most widely used to report impact to investors. Users can align to IRIS+ at the project level just like they would for SDG goals today—through the Edit Project Info screen. The project's impact categories are aligned to appear in the project header and on the project “cards” on the main Project page.
Users can now align their project’s indicators to an IRIS+ or SDG indicator. In the new Standards Alignment section in the Indicator Setup window, clicking ‘Align Now’ will display a list of SDG and IRIS+ indicators from which to choose. The associated impact category log will appear next to the indicator on the main Logframe screen.
IRIS+ is maintained and managed by the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), “the global champion of impact investing, dedicated to increasing its scale and effectiveness around the world.” With impact investing becoming ever more popular, fueled by the desire to do well while doing good, the addition of IRIS+ positions b.world as a platform for investees and investors at the portfolio level who seek to measure the impact they’re having per dollar invested. Of note, the global impact investment market is anticipated to reach more than 7 trillion USD by 2033, more than double what it was in 2023.
Alongside the addition of IRIS+, our kick-ass engineering team implemented technical upgrades in this release that will make it much easier to add more standards in the future. These upgrades will enable organizations to improve their impact measurement game and report the progress and results for the organizations that are funding and/or regulating them.
Stay tuned for other standard libraries added to b.world in future releases.
2) AI-powered SDG Alignment for Projects
Even though IRIS+ debuted in this release, we added AI functionality for the SDGs.
When creating a project via AI, you can automatically align your project to the SDGs. With the power of Azure OpenAI, b.world will select the SDG goal(s) that most closely aligns with your project. Not only is this pure “wow,” but it nicely sets up projects for—spoiler alert!—SDG-based storytelling, another new feature in this release.
3) AI-powered SDG Alignment for Indicators
Something we have been talking about forever is now a reality: users can automatically align their project indicators with the most closely associated SDG indicators.
Clicking ‘Suggest SDG Indicators’ within the Standards Alignment section will trigger b.world to auto-suggest the two SDG indicators that best align with your indicator. Select the one you think is the best fit, and—like that—SDG indicator alignment is unlocked. This feature relieves the burden of manually searching for the best-aligned indicator, paves the way for straightforward SDG reporting, and lays the groundwork for automated SDG indicator data aggregation in b.world’s existing Results module.
4) AI-generated SDG Stories with Images
b.world already includes the ability to generate an impact story via AI, but there’s a new AI-powered story type with new AI functionality: the SDG Report story. Users will now be able to auto-generate an impact story that is focused on one SDG for either one project or multiple projects. This story template includes section headers explicitly crafted to extract and report on crucial SDG-focused information that works perfectly with AI functionality. Speaking of AI, not only will it compose the written content for the story, but it will also—wait for it—auto-select the best cover image for your story via an integration with the popular image database Unsplash. With this new functionality, the time-saving implications for SDG-aligned analysis and reporting are incredible.
Thank you for letting us be on your impact measurement and impact reporting corner.
As Sir Ronald Cohen famously wrote: “We cannot change the world by throwing more money at old concepts that no longer work - we need new concepts and new approaches”
Allow us and AI to be your new comrades-in-impact and watch the communities you serve become healthier, stronger, and more equitable.
